On April 19, 2024, the world lost an incredible and beautiful soul. Ellen
Patricia Powell Beany, aged 107 passed away peacefully in her sleep in
Cortland, Ohio.
On March 17, 1917, Ellen was born to Foster Joseph and Anna (nee
Casey) Powell in Girard, Ohio. She was a graduate of Girard High School
and a former cashier at Scott's Department Store for eight years.
Throughout her long life, Ellen was a resident of Warren, as well as
Deerfield Beach, Florida.
Ellen's secret to longevity was people - she surrounded herself with her
loving family and friends. She was an avid card player, enjoyed attending
dinner shows, loved traveling, and fondly recalled singing in the minstrels
with her sister Mildred in her youth. Ellen will be remembered by all those
who came in contact with her as a smart, kind, and gentle woman who
dressed impeccably and had an infectious laugh.
Ellen leaves behind a tremendous and loving family. Survivors include her
children, Sandra Van Huffel and Cheryl (Robert) Kundel; 11 grandchildren,
several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Other than
her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Beany;
her granddaughter, Kelly Vigliotti; her step-granddaughter, Shelly
Witherspoon; her brother, Raymond Powell; and her sister, Mary "Mildred"
Wilson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at
Harvest Christian Assembly of God Church, 8798 East Market Street,
Warren, Ohio 44484, where Pastor Ron Biehl will celebrate Ellen’s life.
Family and friends may visit at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM
until the time of the service.
Her daughters would like to thank the nurses and aides at Lake Vista in
Cortland for their wonderful care of Ellen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Menagerie,
the Warren Family Mission, or St. Vincent de Paul.
