Norman E. O’Neil, 85, of Cortland, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 6:15 a.m. in Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
He was born New Years Eve 1933 in Youngstown the son of the late Edward H. and Olive Mae Winans O’Neil and was a lifelong area resident.
Norman graduated with an associate degree and was employed with Union Savings and Trust Company in Cortland as a banker for 23 1/2 years.
A veteran of the United States Army, Norman served his country faithfully and honorably and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged on July 22, 1958.
He was a member of Bazetta Christian Church and loved to golf.
Fond memories of Norman will forever be remembered by his loving wife the former Alice M. Jones, whom he married on April 6, 1957; a son Kevin of Cortland; a daughter Kellie (Rocco) Nero of Cortland; and five grandchildren Kristen (finace Matt Stone)Nero, Matthew Nero and Allison Nero and Parker O’Neil and Riley O’Neil.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Sally Hoerig.
Family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Reverend Phillip Smith officiating followed by military honors rendered by the great men of Mahoning County Honor Guard VFW Post 9571 of Ellsworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Norm’s name to the Animal Welfare League, 812 Youngstown Kingsville Road SE, Vienna, Ohio 44473.
