Ralph Reid Leard, Sr., 81, Niles, passed away peacefully Friday, April 19, 2019 at Ohio Living Lake Vista in Cortland, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 29, 1937 in Kittanning. Pa., the son of Finley A. and Mildred (Orr) Leard, moving to Warren in the 1950s.
Ralph owned the Adams Insurance Agency. He enjoyed driving for the Scrappers (Cleveland Indians Class A affiliate). He had a passion for history and was the custodian for the Norman W. Adams family papers and a member of the John Stark Edwards Historical Society. He was an expert in the local Underground Railroad. He spent time as avid outdoorsmen; boating, fishing and hunting. His joy was to spend time with his family and friends with whom he shared his love of cooking, including his famous “Walleye Française” recipe.
He was a member and past President of the Warren Rotary Club and the Independent Insurance Agents of Trumbull County. He also belonged to the Champion Optimist Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Warren and was a volunteer for the Trumbull County Metroparks Board.
Precious memories of Ralph live on with his beloved second wife, Patricia A. (Matson) Leard, whom he married in 2007. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Lucinda (Adams) Leard. Survived by his two daughters, Harriett Stoddard (Robert) of Boulder, CO and Almarine Marvel (Alex) of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren: Lucy Rose Leard, Raine Leard, Asael Marvel, Abram Marvel, and Lucinda Marvel; a sister, Karen L. Connelly (Chris) of Warren; three brothers: Larry R. Leard (Genevieve) of Las Vegas, NV, Leland E. Leard (Karen) of Brecksville, and Kelley R. Leard (Eva) of Las Vegas, NV; two step-children, Christopher Bonner (Andrea) of Mineral Ridge and Denise Morgan (Paul) of Ashtabula; and three step-grandchildren: Michael Morgan, Tarra Morgan, and Christopher Morgan. Ralph enjoyed the love of his 11 nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death are his parents; two sons, Ralph “Reid” Leard, Jr., and Aaron Adams Leard; and sister, Sandra L. Brown.
Per his request, services are private.
