Richard Barker Obituary

Richard H. Barker, 88, of Niles, entered into eternal rest Friday, March 15, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  He was born July 16, 1930 in Warren, the son of Richard H. and Caroline (Zempkey) Barker, and had lived in the area most of his life, with some years in South America, when his dad was setting up a rolling mill.

A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, Richard also worked for the U.S. Air Force at the base in Vienna.  He was an instrument repairman for RMI Titanium, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of employment. A member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Niles, he also served as a trustee for the RMI retirees.  He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed fishing, gardening, horse racing, and going for walks in Stevens Park in Niles. An avid Browns and Cavs fan, his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, friends, and loving pets.

He is sadly missed by his daughter, Keila Yale of Howland; three grandchildren: Rick Kryzanowski (Joy), Amanda Wisneski (Scott), and Dave Yale; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Natalie.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his beloved wife, Penelope Marstellar Barker, whom he married in 1962 and who passed November 23, 2015; and a son-in-law, Bill Yale.

According to his wishes, no services will be held.  Cremation is taking place.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to Birds in Flight Sanctuary, 8655 Warwick S.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, or to birdsinflightsanctuary.com.

The family would like to thank MVI Hospice and Helping Hands for all their kind and compassionate assistance during this difficult time.
