Waldo D. Hipple, 88, of Warren, passed away peacefully July 11, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born May 18, 1930 in Leavittsburg, the son of Edwin and Emma (Fryer) Hipple, and had lived in the area all his life.
A graduate of Leavittsburg High School, Waldo served in the Ohio National Guard. He retired from Packard Electric in 1979, after 30 years of employment. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, served on the parish council, and belonged to the “red hat gang.” He was also active with Elks Lodge 295 in Warren, where he had been a Past Exalted Ruler and was an honorary life member. He also enjoyed golf, woodworking, scuba diving, and flea markets, and had sung in the annual Messiah community chorus for over 25 years.
Fond memories of Waldo live on with his dear wife, Carolyn (Gedeon) Hipple, whom he married December 24, 1949; five children: David Hipple of Preston, Md., Janice (Keith) Smith of Kinsman, Jodi (Thomas) Day of Prescott, Ariz., Judy (Curt) Moser of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jacquie Mest of Kent; seven grandchildren: Kristina, Travis, Benjamin, Lonnie, Ted, Thomas, and Joshua; and five great-grandchildren: Erica, Troy, Stacia, Charlee, and Mason.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a grandson, Matthew; a sister, Jean Brooks; and two brothers, George and John Hipple.
Services are 11:00 am Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Warren. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home and 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the church.
