Bertha H. Wagner

CORTLAND – Bertha H. Wagner, age 82, passed July 31, 2020 with her family by her side holding her hand. She gave her late husband the best birthday gift he could have imagined.  She left us to join him in heaven on his birthday after being separated for thirty-six years.

A graduate of Hershey High School in Pennsylvania, Bertha retired in 2000 from the Johnson Rubber Company in Middlefield, after forty-six years of employment.  She attended North-Mar Church, was an avid dog lover, and enjoyed golf, bowling, swimming, square dancing, playing Pogo, reading, and dog-sitting her granddogs. In recent years, she and her dog Gabbie would sit outside and enjoy conversations with their wonderful neighbors and their dogs.

She loved her dogs probably almost more than people.  It was difficult to ever get a picture without a furry friend in her arms. She is so loved and will be missed until the end of time.  A hole is left in our hearts, but we know she is at peace and in heaven with her husband and her past furry friends watching over us all.

Precious memories of Bertha live on with her son, Michael Wagner (Beth) of Southington; two daughters, Cindy Sawyer (Keith) of Garden Grove, Fla. and Tammy Simsa (Ronald) of Champion; two grandchildren, Andrea Simsa of Wickliffe and Ryan Simsa of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Nylene Immel (Richard) of Greensburg, Pa.; and her beloved dog, Gabbie.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Joseph and Marguerite Hutchison; her loving husband, Clyde “Bud” Wagner, whom she married June 18, 1960 and who passed November 19, 1984; and one sister, Beverly McKenna.

Per Bert’s request, there are no services or calling hours.  Cremation is taking place.  Burial of her urn will take place privately at Sager Cemetery in Bristolville.
