Evelyn White Obituary

DON’T CRY FOR ME BECAUSE WHERE I GO ANGELS SING

CHAMPION – Evelyn Carson White, 91, of Windsor House Armstrong Memory Care Assisted Living, and the lone survivor of the Carson siblings, left her earthly body while she slept on Thursday morning, July 2, 2020, at 12:51 a.m. to spread her heavenly wings and have a heavenly family reunion.

Momma was born July 27, 1928, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Janie Sandle Carson, Sr.

In earlier years, she was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church and sang in the original Silver Leaf choir.  She loved to sing more than anything and often entertained the residents at Armstrong.

Evelyn graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in January 1947.  She was proud to have acted in the senior play as nurse Minnie Stearn in “Anne of Green Gables.”  She often looked at her group photo of her cast members in her yearbook.

After graduation Momma worked part-time at Roy Moxley’s General Store and at the same time held a full-time position at Ravenna Arsenal, where she was one of their best employees.  Reverend Delaney of Friendship Baptist Church assisted her in obtaining a job at Packard Electric, a division of General Motors Corporation and he also baptized her and officiated at her wedding.  She always spoke affectionately of Reverend Delaney her entire life.

During her early years at Packard, she was an exceptional employee as a relief girl knowing all of the jobs on the conveyor line.  And because of her speed and accuracy, she was chosen to be the time-study employee during the development of the harness for the Corvair.  The engineer for the project asked for the best employee in the department and the foreman didn’t hesitate for a moment.  He said, “that would be Evelyn White.”

Momma retired from Packard Electric in 1986 after more than 33 years of service with her final years working diligently on the computer and surrounded with the close family of employees in the Printed Circuit Department as a Processing Operator Development Technician (NBU).

She enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her friends and acquaintances in various facilities.  Momma was mostly a homebody and she enjoyed singing along with her gospel music, playing cards, word puzzles, and word games.  She never lost her quick wit and sense of humor.

Those holding memories are her daughters, Linda R. (Paul) Colbath of Waldoboro, Maine, and Charlene A. White of Warren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A most honorable salute and farewell to her trusted friend and primary caregiver, Lora Faye Shavers, who provided committed, professional and loving care for many years at her home.  They had been friends and neighbors for over 47 years.  Also an honorable salute and farewell to her other home caregivers:  Norma Cobb, Winifred Daniel, Karen Sullivan, and Charlene Williams and a posthumous blessing of much love and gratitude to cousin, Adrienne Gayle Freeman, who made her laugh.  All of them endured horrible weather, emergencies, car issues, fill-ins at a moment’s notice, etc. They treated Momma like she was their own mother and you cannot ask for more than that.

And, of course, Charlene, who micro-managed and orchestrated her life and household for more than 14 years (now a short moment in time), and Linda and Paul, who traveled to Warren to support Charlene and the home caregivers.

There are no words that can express the gratitude for the friendships and loving care she received at Armstrong Memory Care Assisted Living.  It was beyond anything we’ve ever experienced before.  Special gratitude to Brad, Sierra, Ayana and so many others.  A most special acknowledgement to Donny Yankle, Administrator of Armstrong Memory Care, who gave her attention and time, and I watched him affectionately and compassionately attend to her with such gentleness as I stood and watched outside the building window.  At the end stage, Charlene was granted permission to spend time with momma every day at her bedside.  And, finally, gratitude also to Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care nurses and aides, who were steadfast and professionally provided 24/7 end-of-life care.

Momma was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers:  Leon, Preston, Charles Ray and George Carson, Jr., her only sister, Ruth Marie Carson Brown, and one grandson, Anthony LaMarr Benton.

She was also preceded in death by her former husband and most trusted friend, Wilburt (Wilbur) L. White, and the father of their two daughters.

There will be no calling hours observed.

Services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery at the family gravesite.  It is asked that social distancing be respected, and facial coverings are recommended.

“See you later, alligator.”  “After while, crocodile.”
