Jerry L. Neilson, 74, of Howland Township, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 in the intensive care unit at Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital following complications from COVID-19.
He was born Friday, October 11, 1946 in Alliance, Ohio the son of the late Raymond Neilson and Pearl Loue and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1964 graduate of Alliance High School, Jerry entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully and honorably during the Vietnam War.
For a short time, Jerry served as Mayor of the Village of Beloit, Ohio. He was owner and agent of Neilson Insurance Agency in Beloit and later in Sebring. Jerry went on to purchase HHH Insurance in Girard which would later become HHH/Neilson Insurance from which he retired.
He was an avid Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeye Football Fan. Jerry enjoyed playing baseball as a youth and then BOE softball. He bowled on several leagues. He also enjoyed playing pool, golfing with the guys and collecting wrist watches. Jerry savored the taste of a good martini! Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife Carmella “Kitty” Neilson whom he married on December 28, 1974; son Sean (Janet) of Gustavus, AK, and their children T`ea and Skylar; daughter Samantha (Ryan) Wentling of Pittsburgh and their children Vera and Ivy and brother David (Jennifer) Mather of Oklahoma.
There will be no calling hours or services at this time.
