Coach Thorne,

From the time I was a freshman, we struck a chord with a love for social studies. As I walked the halls of Champion Tech, you were there.

I remember when you got so mad because I did not make it to Boy's State. Yet we had the last laugh in that I got to go for a week to Washington Workshop.

I was so honored when you asked me to be one of your baseball managers in my senior year.

How we discussed how maybe we should have let the mad storker start for us against the JFK in the district baseball tournament.

Then working for you that summer downtown before going off to Akron.

Thank you, Coach, Teacher, Mentor, and Friend. Know you will always have a place in my heart.

Kris & family - I was incredibly saddened to hear this news. Please accept my deepest sympathy. We had many fun times together in the hallways of CHS and later during games and celebrating afterwards. I remember the two of you traveling a couple of hours to attend my wedding. A unique and special person whose friendship I have and will always cherish. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers from my family to yours.

My sincere condolences to Kris, EJ and family. I remember Coach with great respect and appreciation. In the two years I played baseball under his leadership - those championship seasons of 1971 and 1972 - he coached, worked, developed us into winners. Coach Thorne made us better than we thought we could be. I took those lessons into life and use them every day, I will never be able to thank #19 enough. I feel proud and thankful to have called him Coach.

I learned so much from Bill about coaching, teaching, and kids in general. He was a great mentor and friend. The coaches at Lakeview will always be thankful for the insights he shared with us about coaching and education in general. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Thorne. I had him as a teacher at Lakeview quite a few years ago. I will keep this short but I do want to say that this was an amazing man. He was such an inspiration to all of his pupils. I know I am deeply hurt by his passing. He was hilarious, had a wonderful spirit and always could say something to make you feel better if you were having a bad day. He will always be remembered for that. God bless you and your family in this difficult time.

With thought and prayer,

Brynden J Morrow

Kris and EJ, our deepest sympathies for your loss of Bill. We had many fun years
together teaching, skiing, and just being friends. We will always remember his
outstanding baseball coaching and the great teams he had at Champion. On the lighter
side Bill gave some great advice when you drive after drinking a little too much.
He said drive exactly the speed limit. If the speed limit is 35, drive 35, not 34 or 36.

I remember Mr. Thorne well, as I had him for my 8th Grade Social Studies class. He was a phenomenal teacher, and an even better moral compass. He really encouraged me to shoot for the stars and see the best in everyone. He left a lasting impression on my character and I shall never forget him.
